Special Correspondent Indian cricket may be flourishing on the field, but the picture off it is becoming increasingly uncomfortable. The latest controversy surrounding the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and the continuing turmoil in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) may appear, on the surface, to be two separate disputes. In reality, they expose a strikingly similar…
MS Shanker The question may sound provocative, even uncomfortable. But recent developments in the administration of state cricket associations make it impossible to ignore: are elected cricket bodies gradually surrendering their autonomy to the judiciary because they have repeatedly failed to govern themselves? The danger is not that courts intervene when there is serious illegality,…
Special Correspondent How much longer is Hyderabad cricket expected to live like this — under judicial supervision, surrounded by allegations and counter-allegations, factional battles and complaints, and forever waiting for a resolution that somehow never arrives? Every few months, the script seems to repeat itself: a fresh complaint, a new allegation, another investigation, another committee,…
Special Correspondent Five years after a scathing judgment, the real question is no longer what happened in 2021. It is what the Hyderabad Cricket Association will do about it now. Five years is a long time in the life of any institution. It is certainly long enough for a judicial order to be implemented, examined…

It is easy to speak about systemic reform in abstract terms. It is considerably harder to identify…
MS Shanker The controversy at the Congress headquarters on Independence Day may have begun with a few seconds of a video clip, but it has quickly turned into something much larger: a political test of how Bharat’s oldest national party relates to one of the most emotive symbols of the freedom struggle. During the Congress…

The latest response of the “controversial” club secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), ostensibly questioning why this e-paper chose to highlight the controversy surrounding his club, is a classic example. Instead of addressing the substantive issues raised, he appears more concerned…
Special Correspondent In what is being viewed as a significant step towards decentralising cricket development across Telangana, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has constituted a District Cricket Infrastructure Development Committee (DCIDC) with former HCA Secretary T. Sheshnarayan as its Chairman. The development assumes significance in the backdrop of proceedings initiated by the Telangana Cricket Association…
