Hyderabad: The State BJP has strongly criticized AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi for his misleading and provocative statements regarding the Wakf Board Amendments Bill. His claim that the Modi government is targeting the Muslim community is nothing short of fear-mongering, aimed at misleading innocent people for political gains.
BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge N.V. Subash questioned Owaisi’s portrayal of the Wakf Board as a religious body. “The Wakf Board is not a religious institution but a statutory custodian of properties. If it is merely a governing body for Muslim properties, how can it be equated with religious organizations?” he asked, urging the Muslim community not to fall for baseless propaganda.
Subash pointed out that the Wakf Board was originally established by the Congress government to manage properties left behind by those who migrated to Pakistan during Partition. However, under Congress’ appeasement politics, the Board was allowed to expand its claims beyond its original mandate. It was, in fact, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who strengthened the Board’s powers through legislation that even undermined the Indian judiciary.
“Empowered by these laws, some state Wakf Boards have even laid claim to Hindu temple lands, ignoring historical realities. The Madras High Court recently struck down one such case, exposing these overreach attempts,” he said.
The BJP leader also criticized Owaisi for lecturing others on secularism while heading a religious political party. “The Election Commission had previously questioned AIMIM on why it should not be derecognized for including ‘Ittehadul-Muslimeen’ in its name. How can Owaisi claim to be secular while leading a religion-based party?” he asked.
Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to justice for all, Subash emphasized that unlike Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government seeks to empower the poorest among the Muslim community. Allowing non-Muslims in the Wakf Board’s governing body would ensure transparency and curb exploitation by vested interests.
“Owaisi’s opposition to the District Collector’s role in verifying Wakf properties is another attempt to shield irregularities. In reality, a large portion of Wakf properties lack valid land records, and Owaisi himself is aware of this,” he added, urging the MP to stop misleading the community with falsehoods.
