Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today strongly condemned the Indian National Congress for orchestrating nationwide protests following the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet against former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi. The charges are linked to a multi-crore money laundering case involving the National Herald, a case that has been under investigation for several years and now reportedly centers around a Rs 5,000 crore scam.
In a scathing statement, BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge N.V. Subash called the Congress protests a blatant attempt to shield the Gandhi family from judicial accountability. “A party that ruled this country for over six decades and plundered public wealth now wants to derail the justice system by creating unrest on the streets,” Subash said. “This is not about democracy or dissent—it is about protecting two individuals who have been named Accused No. 1 and Accused No. 2 in a high-profile corruption.
Subash emphasized that it was not the party but an individual, Subramanian Swamy, a well-known scholar and nationalist, besides former MP and law practitioner, who first brought the National Herald case to public attention in the interest of justice and transparency.
“The case began long before the ED acted. Congress can’t hide behind false cries of vendetta anymore.”
He further slammed the Congress for mobilizing party workers to protest in front of ED offices across the country. “If the Gandhis have done nothing wrong, why not face the courts? Why try to intimidate investigative agencies through street-level theatrics? This is a veiled threat to democracy itself—a move that reeks of desperation,” he said.
Subash questioned whether a party that claims to have fought for India’s independence should stoop so low as to foment public disorder for the sake of two members of a political dynasty. “This isn’t a protest in defense of democracy—it’s a tantrum in defense of entitlement,” he said.
“The Modi-led NDA government came to power in 2014 with a mandate to end corruption and restore integrity to public life. It is this firm resolve to root out graft, no matter how high the profile, that has brought cases like the National Herald to light. The days of sweeping scams under the carpet are over.”
Subash concluded by asserting that the public now sees through the Congress party’s charade. “The people of India know that the real fight is not about Sonia or Rahul—it’s about whether the rule of law applies equally to all citizens, regardless of their last name. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, that principle will not be compromised.”
