BJP Tears into Revanth Over Modi Comparison

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday came down heavily on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for what it termed as a “politically immature and intellectually dishonest” attempt to draw parallels between the Centre-State relations during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the present government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a strongly-worded statement, State BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash said Revanth Reddy’s remarks exposed either his lack of understanding of governance and fiscal federalism or a deliberate attempt to mislead the people of Telangana for political mileage.

“It is absurd and laughable for Revanth Reddy to suggest that Gujarat developed merely because the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was ‘magnanimous’ towards Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Gujarat became a model state because of decisive leadership, transparent governance, financial discipline, industrial vision, and administrative efficiency under Narendra Modi — not because of Congress charity,” Subash asserted.

The BJP leader said the Chief Minister completely missed the essence of what Prime Minister Modi conveyed during Sunday’s public meeting. “The Prime Minister made it crystal clear that development cannot happen without financial discipline and responsible governance. Whether it was the Planning Commission era under the Congress or the present NITI Aayog framework, no state can expect limitless financial indulgence while recklessly pushing the state into debt,” he said.

Subash stated that Revanth Reddy’s attempt to compare himself with Narendra Modi as Chief Minister was “nothing short of political overreach and self-ridicule.”

“Narendra Modi transformed Gujarat through vision, hard work, corruption-free governance, investor confidence, infrastructure growth, and administrative accountability. Telangana under Congress rule today is witnessing financial chaos, unfulfilled guarantees, mounting debt, governance paralysis, and political theatrics,” he remarked.

The BJP leader said Prime Minister Modi’s statement advising Revanth Reddy to “ally with him” was not political sarcasm, but a practical message that states progress faster when they work in coordination with the Centre instead of indulging in confrontation politics and blame games.

“Instead of indulging in hollow comparisons and publicity-oriented speeches, the Telangana Chief Minister should focus on governance, implementation of promises, strengthening state finances, improving infrastructure, supporting farmers, and creating employment opportunities for youth,” Subash said.

He further said that while Narendra Modi has consistently treated all states equally irrespective of political affiliations, Congress leaders continue to suffer from a feudal mindset where they believe development is possible only through political bargaining and entitlement politics.

“The people of Telangana are intelligent enough to understand the difference between a globally acknowledged Gujarat Model built through performance and a Congress government struggling to manage its own finances within months of assuming power,” he added.

The BJP also advised the Chief Minister not to misuse Prime Minister Modi’s developmental vision and credibility for political image-building exercises.

“Telangana can certainly emerge as a growth engine of India, and the Centre is fully committed to supporting the state. But such growth requires discipline, vision, transparency, and governance — not mere slogans about a so-called ‘Telangana Model’ without a roadmap,” Subash stated.
