Hyderabad: In a significant initiative to promote academic excellence in agricultural education, the Dr. YSR & Dr. KVP Foundation has donated ₹21 lakh to Prof. Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), Rajendranagar, here, for instituting an annual merit award for outstanding students pursuing Agricultural Sciences.
The donation, made as a revolving fund, will support an annual cash award of ₹1 lakh to an academically meritorious student of the university.
The cheque was handed over on behalf of the Foundation by former Member of Parliament Vundavalli Arun Kumar to PJTAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah during the university’s 62nd Foundation Day celebrations and a national seminar on “Incredible Contributions of Late Indira Gandhi to the Green Revolution with Special Emphasis on Agricultural Research and Education in India” held on Thursday.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including former Supreme Court judge Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, Prof. Madhura Swaminathan of the Indian Statistical Institute, Bengaluru, Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, and Telangana State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission Chairman M. Kodanda Reddy.
The Foundation, established by Dr. K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, seeks to carry forward the vision and ideals of his close associate, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Foundation representatives said the award reflects Dr. YSR’s lifelong commitment to farmers’ welfare and agricultural development. By encouraging excellence in Agricultural Sciences, the initiative aims to inspire future agricultural professionals and contribute to rural development through education and research.
