Hyderabad: The murder of a man who had filed complaint against former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and others alleging corruption in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project, kicked up a political slugfest on Thursday with the family members of the deceased and the ruling Congress in Telangana pointing fingers at the BRS over the killing.
However, the BRS dismissed the allegations.
N Rajalingamurthy (50) was stabbed to death over some land disputes by unidentified persons when he was going on a bike in Jayashankar Bhupalpally town by late evening on Wednesday, police said.
The murder took place just a day before a crucial High Court hearing was scheduled to address KCR’s petition challenging the case initiated by Rajalingamurthy.
According to police, Rajalingamurthy was attacked by two unidentified individuals on Wednesday evening around 7:30 pm while he was riding his motorcycle. The assailants stabbed him, and he succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.
However, the police have ruled out any political motive behind the incident, stating that it stemmed from an ongoing land dispute, news agency PTI reported.
Police teams have been deployed to identify the culprits and the body has been sent to the Bhupalpally Government Hospital for postmortem.
Rajalingamurthy had filed a private complaint in October 2023, seeking an FIR against KCR and other officials after some piers of the Medigadda barrage sank. When the police initially refused to register his complaint, he took the matter to court, which led to the case being taken up by the High Court.
He had joined the Congress party ahead of the 2023 assembly elections, and his wife, Sarala, had previously served as a councillor in the Bhupalapally municipality. The police have formed special teams to investigate the murder and identify the attackers, with further inquiries underway.
