Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of reducing the dignity of his constitutional office and attempting to divide the nation for narrow political gains.
In a strongly worded statement, State BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash said Revanth Reddy was indulging in reckless rhetoric merely to impress the Congress high command and its dynastic leadership.
“By repeatedly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi with baseless accusations, Revanth Reddy is mocking not just his own office but also the aspirations of millions of Indians. The Prime Minister today stands among the most respected global leaders, with over 30 nations conferring upon him their highest civilian honours. Such recognition is a matter of pride for every Indian, irrespective of political affiliation,” Subash said.
Referring to Revanth Reddy’s comments at The Hindu Huddle conclave in Bengaluru, where he criticised the Centre over women’s reservation and the proposed delimitation exercise, the BJP chief spokesperson termed the remarks “misleading, ill-informed and dangerous.”
“Is Revanth Reddy suggesting that a country of 140 crore people should continue with decades-old constituency boundaries despite massive demographic changes? Has he lost sight of constitutional realities and democratic necessities? Electoral revision and delimitation are not political gimmicks but constitutional processes essential for ensuring fair representation,” he said.
Subash questioned the Chief Minister’s attempt to portray delimitation as a North-versus-South issue.
“It is unfortunate that a Chief Minister is deliberately stoking regional sentiments and attempting to pit one part of India against another. Such divisive politics may suit the Congress party, which has historically thrived on creating fault lines based on caste, region and religion, but it is detrimental to national unity,” he said.
The BJP leader further highlighted India’s transformation under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
“Before lecturing the nation, Revanth Reddy should explain where India stood before 2014 and where it stands today. In just over a decade, India has risen from the 11th-largest economy to among the world’s leading economies. The country has made remarkable strides in defence, space technology, digital innovation, semiconductor manufacturing, startups and infrastructure development. India today commands unprecedented respect on the global stage,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the Telangana Chief Minister, Subash advised him not to emulate Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by making irresponsible statements that undermine India’s image internationally.
“People across the world are recognising India’s rise, while Congress leaders seem determined to run down the country at every available platform. Such negativity reflects political desperation rather than statesmanship,” he remarked.
The BJP chief spokesperson also accused Revanth Reddy of hypocrisy for speaking about social divisions.
“The Congress party has no moral authority to lecture anyone on social harmony. It was Congress that institutionalised vote-bank politics and repeatedly divided society on the basis of religion, caste and region. Revanth Reddy should remember his own party’s history before making such allegations against others,” he said.
Subash further cautioned the Chief Minister against what he described as “political arrogance.”
“History is replete with examples of leaders who believed they were invincible, only to be rejected by the people. Telangana’s voters are carefully watching the Congress government’s performance and will deliver their verdict at the appropriate time. The Chief Minister would do well to focus on governance instead of indulging in political theatrics and daydreaming about perpetual power,” he said.
Drawing a contrast with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Subash said, “Even senior Congress leaders elsewhere have publicly acknowledged and taken pride in their civilisational roots. Revanth Reddy should learn humility and responsibility from such examples instead of making inflammatory statements that divide society.”
The Telangana BJP reiterated that attempts to create regional, religious or political divisions for electoral gains would be firmly opposed and asserted that the people of Telangana would reject what it described as the Congress party’s politics of confrontation and distraction.
