Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP has strongly criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for going back on his promises and imposing a 15% hike on beer prices, calling it a betrayal of the people.
BJP spokesperson N.V. Subash accused the Chief Minister of deceiving the public, particularly beer consumers, ahead of the summer months.
The Excise Department’s recent notification has led to an increase in beer prices, with light beer rising from ₹150 to ₹180 and strong beer from ₹160 to ₹200.
“This move is nothing but an attempt to compensate for revenue losses incurred due to the Congress government’s electoral promises,” Subash stated. He pointed out that Telangana, known for its high beer consumption, is now following the footsteps of Congress-ruled Karnataka in burdening consumers.
The BJP also highlighted how United Breweries Limited (UBL) had earlier threatened to halt beer supply due to pricing disputes and pending dues. Subash alleged that Revanth Reddy succumbed to pressure from UBL and approved the price hike based on a committee’s recommendations.
‘’This is yet another instance of the Chief Minister’s broken promises, similar to the postponement of financial aid for women. The people of Telangana are watching, and they will deliver their verdict in the upcoming local body elections,” Subash warned.
The BJP has vowed to continue exposing the Congress government’s failures and stand by the interests of the people.
