BJP Ridicules Revanth’s Caste Census Claim

Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday strongly ridiculed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s claim that the caste survey conducted by his government served as a “template” for the Union Government’s caste census.
The party dismissed the assertion as laughable, unscientific, and politically motivated.

Responding to Revanth Reddy’s remarks, BJP’s Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge, N V Subhash said, “It is absurd to suggest that a chaotic and unscientific exercise like the Telangana caste survey could inspire a nationwide initiative. People themselves rejected it by refusing to share information that is already available through many videos that gone viral in social media.”

Subash pointed out that the Caste Census will now be conducted as part of the National Population Register (NPR), as announced by the Union Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs and confirmed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. “This is a centrally driven, constitutionally mandated process—unlike the local experiments by Congress-led states that lack transparency and public trust,” he said.

Taking a dig at the Congress party, Subash asked, “Is Revanth now trying to upstage Rahul Gandhi and claim credit for a decision taken by the Modi government? Let’s not forget that, caste census was Rahul Gandhi’s poll plank ahead of the recent general elections.

The BJP also cited the controversial caste survey in Karnataka conducted by the Congress government, which has drawn flak from several major communities for being flawed and non-transparent. “That should serve as a lesson, not a model,” Subash said.

He further emphasized that under Article 246 of the Constitution, only the Central Government is empowered to conduct a caste census on a nationwide scale. “It’s unfortunate that Congress leaders continue to mislead the public for political gain. But the people are not fools—they see through this farce,” he added.

He also reminded Revanth Reddy, how his party leaders – from Nehru to Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi (rejecting the Mandal Commission report) – mocked the caste census in the past.

The BJP reaffirmed that the Modi government’s decision to undertake the caste census through proper constitutional channels reflects its commitment to social justice based on data, not drama.
