Indus School Launches Student-Led Arts Platform ‘Skene’

Hyderabad: The city-based Indus International School has launched Skene, a dynamic, student-led arts initiative aimed at nurturing creativity, collaboration and leadership. Inspired by ancient Greek theatre, the platform features a physical gallery and an interactive online space, both showcasing student work in visual arts, music, and performance, all accessible to the public free of charge.

Founded by first-year IBDP student Ayush Gadde, Skene is entirely curated and managed by students. It will host monthly exhibitions, studio concerts and interdisciplinary workshops, with students taking on roles from curation and direction to digital promotion. “We wanted a space where everyone—from painters to poets—could learn from one another,” Ayush said.

The school has also appointed alumnus and local artist Ravi Kumar as its first Artist in Residence to mentor students on portfolio development and arts entrepreneurship, culminating in a public exhibition in June.

“Art is not just a subject; it’s a language,” said Anjali Rao, Head of Visual & Performing Arts. “Through Skene, our students express identity, build empathy and develop real-world skills that last a lifetime.”

The broader community is invited to participate, with many events featuring live art, open mics, and interactive installations.
