Hyderabad: Slamming the previous BRS government in Telangana for not implementing the PM Awas Yojana, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said the Centre would hand over approval for the construction of 2 lakh houses under the scheme to the state government on September 18.
The approval for 2 lakh houses would be the first tranche under the scheme, and more houses would be sanctioned for Telangana, Chouhan said.
Though the Centre was ready to sanction houses for the poor under the scheme, the previous K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) government had refused to implement it, he said while speaking at an interaction with farmers in a village near here along with Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy.
“The previous government did not implement the scheme. But the present government is ready to implement PM Awas Yojana,” Chouhan said.
He also said the Centre and the Telangana government would work to implement the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, alleging that the previous BRS government had not implemented the crop insurance scheme in the state.
Chouhan said a regional conference of agriculture ministers from southern states would be held in Hyderabad on Friday, with discussions expected to focus on modernising agriculture and increasing farmers’ incomes.
He further assured that the Centre would work towards implementing the Lakhpati Didi initiative in Telangana for women associated with Self-Help Groups. Under the initiative, a Lakhpati Didi is defined as a Self-Help Group member whose annual household income exceeds Rs 1 lakh.
The Telangana government had earlier sought 11.56 lakh houses under PMAY-G after an Awaas+ survey identified 11,56,915 eligible rural families in the state, according to the state government.
