In a landmark achievement that reinforces its reputation as one of India’s premier institutions of higher education, Osmania University has become the first university in the country to simultaneously secure four prestigious International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Government of India.
As an alumna of one of India’s oldest and most prestigious universities, I feel immensely proud of this unprecedented achievement, which reflects Osmania University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, institutional quality, environmental responsibility, energy conservation and student welfare. It also places the University among a select group of higher educational institutions globally that have successfully integrated internationally recognised management systems across multiple domains.
The four certifications awarded are:
- ISO 21001:2018 – Educational Organizations Management System, recognising excellence in educational processes and learner-centric institutional management.
- ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System, acknowledging the University’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices.
- ISO 50001:2018 – Energy Management System, recognising efficient energy utilisation and conservation initiatives.
- ISO 22000:2018 – Food Safety Management System, ensuring the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in campus dining facilities.
As an academician, I believe receiving these four certifications simultaneously is a rare distinction and demonstrates Osmania University’s comprehensive approach towards quality governance. The certifications validate that the University’s academic, administrative, environmental and support systems meet globally accepted standards of efficiency, accountability and continuous improvement.
This remarkable achievement has come under the dynamic leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram, whose vision has focused on modernising the University’s governance framework while preserving its rich academic legacy. His emphasis on quality assurance, transparency, digital transformation, sustainability, and institutional excellence has helped position Osmania University as a model for public universities across the country.
The certification process involved rigorous audits and detailed assessments of the University’s academic operations, administrative procedures, environmental management practices, energy conservation measures and food safety protocols. The successful completion of these evaluations reflects the collective efforts of faculty members, administrative staff, researchers, students and various departments working in close coordination to achieve international benchmarks.
Established in 1918, Osmania University has consistently remained one of India’s most respected centres of higher learning. Over the decades, it has produced distinguished scholars, scientists, administrators, jurists, political leaders and professionals who have made significant contributions both nationally and internationally.
