New Delhi: Heavy rain continued to lash the national capital on Friday morning, a day after widespread showers inundated several parts of the city, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an ‘orange alert’ and forecasting more heavy rainfall through the day.
The minimum temperature settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, the city’s base station, 1.3 notches below normal.
Station-wise data showed that at Palam, the minimum temperature was 23.2 degrees Celsius, 3.6 notches below normal, while Lodhi Road recorded 25.2 degrees Celsius, 0.8 notch below normal. The Ridge station logged a minimum of 22.1 degrees Celsius, 4.1 notches below normal, and Ayanagar recorded 24.8 degrees Celsius, 1.6 notches below normal.
The IMD said Delhi recorded its rainiest day of August so far this year during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday. Station-wise data showed that Safdarjung received 59.2 mm of rainfall, Lodhi Road 60.4 mm, Ridge 57.0 mm, Ayanagar 26.2 mm and Palam 16.9 mm.
The weather office has forecast a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain during the day. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely during the forenoon and afternoon, while very light to light rain is expected during the evening and night.
The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 31 degrees Celsius, while humidity was recorded at 98 per cent at 8.30 am.
The city’s air quality remained in the “satisfactory” category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 62 in the morning hours, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to the CPCB, an AQI between 51 and 100 falls in the “satisfactory” category.
