New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the Union Cabinet’s decision to approve the GOBARdhan Scheme, which will give a major boost to compressed biogas, and sanction a four-lane access-controlled highway between Guwahati and Tezpur in Assam.
He said the projects will strengthen seamless connectivity, create a strong and predictable ecosystem for investment and innovation.
The cabinet approved a Rs 23,731-crore national scheme to accelerate production of compressed biogas (CBG), betting on agricultural and municipal waste to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and strengthen the country’s clean energy transition.
“A vital step towards clean energy, rural prosperity and realising our collective dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat! The Cabinet has approved GOBARdhan Scheme, which will give a major boost to Compressed Biogas, to increase domestic CBG production nearly ten-fold. The scheme will create a strong and predictable ecosystem for investment and innovation,” Modi said in a post on X.
The prime minister said the scheme will benefit farmers, cooperatives, MSMEs, women entrepreneurs and rural enterprises while strengthening energy security, reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels and promoting scientific waste management.
The cabinet also approved the development of 135.871 km, 4-lane access-controlled Guwahati-Tezpur corridor of NH-15 in Assam for Rs 8,970.20 crore.
“A major boost to connectivity and growth in Assam! The cabinet has approved a 4-lane access-controlled Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor of NH-15. The project will reduce travel time, improve road safety and ease congestion through major bypasses at various locations,” Modi said.
The prime minister also said it will include an emergency landing facility at Tezpur, along with bridges, flyovers, underpasses and service roads. The corridor will strengthen seamless connectivity across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
