Mumbai: Mumbai Police have busted an international cyber fraud racket with links to Dubai and arrested 12 persons from a villa in Goa for allegedly duping people across the country through fake online gaming platforms, an official said on Thursday.
The accused allegedly operated fraudulent online gaming and betting websites, including ‘Rudra’ and ‘100 Panel’, and routed the proceeds of the crime through fake bank accounts opened in Mumbai, he said.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team of Crime Branch Unit-2 raided the Casa de Nicolau Villa in Orda, Candolim and apprehended 15 persons. Fifteen laptops, 85 mobile phones, 128 ATM cards, 76 SIM cards, 77 bank passbooks, 22 cheque books and six routers along with bank-related documents were seized.
The handlers of the racket were based in Dubai while the arrested accused received a commission of 3 per cent on every transaction, the official said.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the money trail, he added.
