Modi’s latest two-and-a-half-minute video appeal to Gen Z stands out as timely and apt. This writer, a strong believer of calling a spade a spade, has been a critic of Modi and his party but also praised him where it was due on various occasions.
One such chance Modi has given in his mid-70s is his latest address to Gen Z, forgiving them for all the abuses and slang used against him and others personally. This writer has been strongly advocating on X to social media influencers to make the medium which includes other platforms like Insta, Facebook, etc., totally slang-free so that they become a serious think tank for the entire world.
Now, Modi will be trolled even for this also shows how abysmally we have fallen in our values while separating the chaff from the grain.
One wonders whether we are separating the grain from the chaff rather than the other way round, as our grandmothers did.
I, in fact, posted several tweets urging the government to completely drop all the charges for the first-time protesters while not sparing the known criminals masquerading as protestors.
Now, this appeal from Modi should be seen on the ground, but if he is misled and the youngsters are harassed, everything will go waste for all the good Modi said in his latest message.
Being in his 70s, this writer empathises with Modi with an appeal to others who are around him in an advisory capacity to ensure that his words are translated into sincere action, sparing all protestors unconditionally but with a strong message of severe consequences should their misguided behaviour get repeated in the future.
Modi’s PMO should ensure that his words are reflected in action on the ground, failing which it will be seen as the biggest deception and it would be back to square one with redoubled vigour.
Dipke and Saurav of the CJP can, for a change, welcome Modi’s appeal and ensure that his words mean business and see that the cockroaches across the country are freed unconditionally.
They should also prevail upon them to show verbal restraint, not compromising on the essence of protests. They should join the government in weeding out known criminals getting in disguise as protestors and diluting the very purpose of the same. No question of supporting such guys, even if they belong to the Gen Z category.
