Kolkata: West Bengal Sports Minister Dr. Indranil Khan has welcomed the enhanced financial support to National Sports Federations under the Khelo India Scheme, saying it will help nurture the next generation of athletes and strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem.
He said the Khelo India programme would provide a major boost to sports in West Bengal, with ₹5 crore earmarked for each Assembly constituency and the state government planning to establish 100 indoor sports arenas.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on sports, Dr. Khan said the scheme has created a strong pathway for young athletes by providing quality coaching, nutritional support, and international exposure from the grassroots level.
“We are thankful to the Honourable Prime Minister for encouraging sports and sportspersons. As India prepares to bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympics, Khelo India is playing a phenomenal role in developing future champions,” he told SAI Media.
He added that the enhanced budgetary support under the scheme would further accelerate the growth of Indian sports and help produce more elite athletes across the country.
