New Delhi: The results of the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) for 84 subjects have been announced, with more than 4,000 candidates qualifying for the Junior Research Fellowship, the National Testing Agency said late on Friday.
“Out of 6.07 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam in 84 subjects, over 97,000 have qualified for PhD admissions and over 4,000 for JRF,” a senior NTA official said.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had ordered fresh examinations for candidates who appeared for the English, Commerce and Sociology papers in June this year after an expert committee found factual, typographical, translation and language-related errors in the question papers.
The results come weeks after the agency flagged irregularities in three question papers from the June examination. An expert committee had identified factual, typographical, translation and language-related errors in the English, Commerce and Sociology papers.
The NTA released the UGC-NET provisional answer key on August 16. It subsequently announced that candidates who took the three affected papers would have to appear for fresh examinations.
The re-tests are scheduled for September 9 and 10. Candidates appearing for the three papers will not have to pay an additional examination fee, the agency said.
UGC-NET is conducted to assess eligibility for assistant professor appointments and JRFs at Indian universities and colleges. It also serves as a qualification route for PhD admissions.
