Kozhikode (Keralam): General Education Minister N Shamsudheen on Sunday said the state government would take a decision on implementing the PM-SHRI scheme only after receiving the report of a special Cabinet sub-committee examining the matter.
The previous LDF government had signed an agreement with the Centre to implement the Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India scheme in the state. However, its implementation was later put on hold following opposition from within the ruling front.
After coming to power, the UDF government, which had opposed the scheme, appointed a special Cabinet sub-committee to examine the matter.
The four-member panel is led by General Education Minister N. Shamsudheen, with ministers Roji M. John, P.C. Vishnunath, and M. Liju as members.
The United Democratic Front (UDF) government stated it is bound to carry forward the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the previous administration to secure central education funds. [1, 2]
The state maintains that it will implement the program only with strict caveats, ensuring Kerala retains total control over its school curriculum and the specific institutions chosen for upgrades
