Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishore wins the Bankipur by-election

Patna: Prashant Kishor secured a landmark victory in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, marking the first electoral win of the Jan Suraj Party and his own first victory as a candidate.

The result is significant because Bankipur has been a BJP stronghold for decades, with the BJP (and its predecessor seat, Patna West) winning every election there since 1995.

Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha after maintaining a steady lead throughout counting, while RJD candidate Rekha Kumari finished third in the three-cornered contest.

The bypoll was held after BJP leader Nitin Nabin vacated the seat following his election to the Bihar Legislative Council. Widely seen as a key political test ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the contest was framed by Kishor as a referendum on the ruling NDA government. His victory is being viewed as a major breakthrough for Jan Suraj in Bihar’s political landscape
