ED summons TMC MP Nussrat Jahan for questioning next week

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned TMC MP and actor Nussrat Jahan for questioning next week in Kolkata in a case linked to alleged duping of senior citizens by promising them flats in New Town on the eastern fringes of the city, official sources said on Tuesday.

Jahan has been asked to depose before the central agency on September 12 here and it is expected that the agency will record her statement.

The ED probe pertains to a group of senior citizens recently lodging a complaint accusing a real estate company of cheating by promising them flats in the New Town area.

According to Shankudev, they approached the police in this regard. But it didn’t work. A case was also filed against Nusrat in court. But allegation, MP and actress did not appear despite getting a court summons. So finally, Shankudev went to the ED office with the cheated people and filed a complaint. State Opposition Leader Subvendu Adhikari later also claimed that Nusrat had bought a flat on Palm Avenue with ‘cheat’ money.

Nusrat held a press conference after the allegations came to light. He dismissed all the allegations there. Nusrat made it clear that he bought the flat with a loan from the concerned company. He returned that loan with interest. He has no further contact with that company. Nusrat claims that he is not involved in any corruption. However, he was not heard to answer almost any questions of the journalists outside of the press conference.

Later, Rakesh, another director of the company told Anandabazar Online that Nusrat did not take any loan from their company. He was shocked to hear Nusrat’s statement!

Nusrat was confident from the beginning in this case of cheating on the sale of flats. Standing next to actor Yash Dasgupta at a party, he insisted that the ED would not call him.

ED is quite active in various financial corruption cases in Bengal. A few days ago, they also summoned Sayani Ghosh, another actress member of the ruling party and president of Yuva Trinamool, citing a source in the recruitment case. In this scenario, Nusrat was virtually certain that the ED would not summon him. How was he so sure? The question arose. Many people were also saying that Yash once stood for election on BJP ticket.

After losing the polls, however, he was not seen publicly at any BJP program. But he never announced that he was no longer in BJP. May be, Yash’s ‘connection’ with BJP is still intact. And based on that, the tone of confidence in the voice of his wife Nusrat. But it turned out that Nusrat’s ‘prophecy’ did not come true. The central agency summoned him for questioning. It remains to be seen whether he attends the ED office on the specified day or not.
