Ammann India: The Road Ahead Is Wider Than Roads

OrangeNews9

There was something slightly deceptive about the Ammann display at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026. At first sight, it looked like a familiar road-construction equipment showcase, with pavers, rollers and asphalt technology occupying much of the visual space. After spending a little more time there, however, the composition began to suggest something broader.

Five new products were presented, including the AP 1000 Tracked Paver, CPB 36 Truck Mounted Boom Pump, ARW 65.1 Walk Behind Roller, ARX 26.2 Mini Roller and CC 60 Concrete Plant with Belt.

Rather than the individual machines, what caught my attention was the range of applications they represented. Ammann India’s portfolio has, in more recent times, been moving across adjacent areas of construction, while the technology surrounding those products has also been developing.

The 95 Percent Story

The most telling number was 95 percent. Ammann says 95 percent of components across this range are indigenously sourced, and that gives the familiar Made-in-India proposition a different dimension.

Localisation becomes more meaningful when it supports a wider product and engineering base. In Ammann’s case, the Indian operation is supporting equipment that spans paving, compaction, concrete production and pumping. That points to a supply chain and manufacturing ecosystem with the capacity to support more than a single equipment category.

It also gives greater substance to the company’s stated ambition of taking solutions developed close to Indian customers into other growth markets.

Beyond Asphalt

The presence of concrete equipment alongside paving and compaction machinery was one of the more interesting aspects of the display. The CPB 36 Truck Mounted Boom Pump and CC 60 Concrete Plant with Belt extended the proposition beyond Ammann’s traditional association with asphalt and compaction, while the compact rollers addressed applications where manoeuvrability and access can matter as much as machine size.

Seen together, the products reflected the increasingly varied requirements of Indian infrastructure. Highways and roads remain important, but so do urban infrastructure, airports, bridges, concrete construction and projects where several construction disciplines converge.

Ammann appears to be responding to that wider requirement rather than treating each machine as an isolated product.

From Machines To Systems

The equipment was only part of the story. The VT 180 Asphalt Plant with RAH 60, AS1 Plant Control System and connected solutions showed how digitalisation has become increasingly closely linked to production.

Plant controls, connectivity and production monitoring can improve operational visibility, maintenance and production efficiency. Their significance lies less in the technology itself than in what it allows a plant operator to do with better information and control.

The same applies to Ammann’s recycling technologies. Solutions aimed at increasing the use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement and warm-mix processes address the growing requirement to use materials and energy more efficiently.

This is where construction equipment is gradually becoming part of a larger production system.

India To The World

Hans Christian Schneider, Chief Executive Officer, Ammann Group, is led to say: “India’s scale of infrastructure ambition, and the pace of demand we are seeing here, make it one of the most important markets in our global network. bauma CONEXPO INDIA gives us an opportunity to demonstrate how solutions developed close to customers in India can address requirements across other growth markets, including Southeast Asia. This is Made in India, for the world, in the truest sense, and India’s contribution to our global innovation ecosystem will only continue to grow.”

The distinction is important. Manufacturing in India for the Indian market is one thing; developing solutions in India that can also serve other markets is another.

Ammann is positioning the Indian operation as part of that wider global network, and the depth of local sourcing makes that proposition more credible than a simple assembly story.

The Indian Proposition

Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director, Ammann India, adds: “Every solution we bring to market is shaped by the need to build faster, use fewer resources, and deliver smarter, cleaner equipment. As India’s infrastructure build-out accelerates, Ammann is focused on advancing the industry through intelligent equipment, digitalisation, recycling and energy-efficient technologies, strengthening the connection between innovation in India and the evolving needs of customers worldwide.”

The message was consistent with what the display showed. Productivity, resource efficiency, digitalisation and recycling are increasingly being treated as interconnected requirements rather than separate themes.

Ammann India, headquartered at Ditasan in Mehsana district, Gujarat, is part of the Swiss-based Ammann Group. Its Indian portfolio includes compaction equipment, asphalt and concrete mixing plants and pavers, supported by aftermarket services covering maintenance, training and spare parts.

What has become more significant is the capability developing around that portfolio. Local sourcing has deepened, the product range has widened, and Indian-developed solutions are being positioned for markets beyond India.

The India Effect

My takeaway from the Ammann stall was therefore not simply that five new machines had been introduced.

It was that the machines revealed a broader change taking place around them. A company strongly associated with asphalt, paving and compaction is now presenting a proposition that also embraces concrete, compact equipment, digital production systems and circular roadbuilding.

The common denominator is increasingly the application rather than the machine.

For Ammann India, that could prove to be the more important development. “Made in India” is beginning to mean more than where equipment is manufactured. It is increasingly about where products are engineered, where supply chains are developed, and where solutions shaped by a demanding market can find applications elsewhere.

After seeing the display, I would describe Ammann India less as a supplier of roadbuilding machines and more as a company steadily broadening its role within the construction process.

That is the more interesting story I took away from bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026.
