The ancient shrine of Lord Dakshinamurthy is situated inside the historic Panchavarnaswamy Temple in the Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu. Instead of teaching through words, the Lord revealed the supreme truth through silence and Chinmudra. At that moment, the sages attained spiritual wisdom and understood that divine realization can only be experienced through inner awakening and grace.
The banyan tree under which the Lord manifested is believed to symbolize eternal wisdom that never fades with time. Even today, devotees believe that prayers offered at this shrine remove ignorance, confusion, educational obstacles, and difficulties related to Guru dosha while blessing devotees with wisdom, peace, and spiritual progress.
Important festivals associated with the Dakshinamurthy shrine include Guru Peyarchi, Guru Pushya Nakshatra celebrations, Maha Shivaratri, Margazhi special pujas, and weekly Thursday worship dedicated to Guru Bhagavan. On Thursdays, large numbers of devotees visit the shrine and offer yellow flowers, turmeric, chana dal, vibhuti garlands, and ghee lamps seeking blessings for education, career growth, wisdom, marriage, and spiritual advancement.
