Time and time again, Rahul Ghandy’s behaviour pattern confirms his narcissistic personality.
In hindsight, such a behaviour is borne out of arrogance of entitlement.
A warning – Narcissists usually turn into dictators! Wake up, “We the People of India”! Before it is too late, “We the People’ must throw narcissists out of the country!
If Rahul Ghandy has the courage of conviction about ethics, morals and values, he must come clean on the suffix “Gandhi” having been born to Feroze Shah Jehangir Ghandy! Not to any true “Gandhi” ancestor.
One of the best examples of Rahul Ghandy’s wild behaviour was his public denouncement and symbolic rejection of an ordinance proposed by his own Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government. On September 27, 2013, he publicly described the ordinance as “complete nonsense” and tore up a copy of it before the media. It was an extraordinary display of contempt for his own government and its authority.
Repeatedly, Rahul Ghandy demonstrates an acerbic style—criticism or disagreement expressed through harsh language, biting wit and a cynical tone. His sarcastic behaviour is now routinely on display both inside and outside Parliament. Before the visual media, he often resorts to theatrics and aggressive rhetoric against his political opponents. The latest is parachuting Pawan Khera into the Rajya Sabha, known for his rabble-rousing theatrics, to add clout.
“Gully Politics” galore both within and outside the Parliament, hailed as the “Temple of Democracy”. Instead of politics based on ethics, values and morals.
Ipso facto, Rahul Ghandy does not hesitate to use language that many would consider unparliamentary or deeply offensive, even against the Prime Minister of India, who represents the mandate of 145 crore Indians. Such conduct is hardly what one expects from the Leader of the Opposition and a man who aspires to occupy the office of Prime Minister.
Rahul Ghandy’s desperation and apparent sense of political hopelessness seem to be driving him towards increasingly rash and extreme behaviour. His reckless public posturing appears to be a manifestation of that desperation.
Recently, the Leader of the Opposition has launched several sharp verbal attacks and made specific characterisations targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) across different forums, including the Lok Sabha and public events.
On August 13, 2026, while addressing the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in New Delhi, Rahul Ghandy reportedly referred to the BJP and RSS as a “bunch of jokers” and a “bunch of clowns”, accusing them of lacking any real understanding of Indian history or philosophy.
The list of jibes includes “Hug Diplomacy” & “Reel-Making” of Modi’s foreign policy; “Servant of Large Capital (Adani); Submissive Under Pressure”: “Cowardice Ideology” and so on.
Repeatedly, Rahul Ghandy exposed himself more as a dramatist/joker than a responsible MP. For example, the iconic images of Rahul Ghandy hugging Modi inside the Parliament and subsequently winking took place in the Lok Sabha on 20 July 2018 during a high-stakes no-confidence motion debate.
The list of his jibes is long: “Hug Diplomacy” and “Reel-Making” in reference to Modi’s foreign policy; describing Modi as a “servant of large capital”, particularly Ambani and Adani; alleging that he is “submissive under pressure”; and branding the RSS ideology as one of “cowardice”, among other attacks.
It is easy to interpret such behaviour as the desperation of a politician determined to become Prime Minister of India, by hook or by crook.
No wonder, the title of “Pappu” has been bestowed on him by his rivals.
Speaking at a university event in Colombia, Rahul Ghandy also attacked the RSS ideology as one of “cowardice”, summarising its alleged philosophy as one that seeks to “beat up the weak and fear the strong”.
He has also asserted in Parliament that Narendra Modi, the BJP and the RSS do not represent the entirety of Hindu society or Hinduism. He has repeatedly accused the RSS of seeking to “capture” the soul of India’s democratic framework and has alleged that it exercises influence over institutions and ministries from behind the scenes.
Such strident and rabid criticism—often delivered through harsh language, biting wit and a cynical tone—only reinforces the impression of arrogance and entitlement.
It is easy to understand such vulgar behavior as desperation to somehow become the Prime Minister of India by hook or crook.
The credibility of the Ghandy brood when it comes to preaching “ethics, morals and values” in the political arena is, therefore, difficult to accept. Their relentless quest to somehow recapture political power appears to have overtaken the larger responsibility of providing constructive alternatives and enriching and advancing ”Unity in Diversity”.
In retrospect, Rahul Ghandy, as LOP, behaves more like an agitator bent upon breeding political chaos, lawlessness, and social collapse.
Even if Rahul Ghandy eventually achieves his political ambition, there is a fundamental question that cannot be brushed aside.
In retrospect, agitation and administration require opposite skill sets. Can he suddenly become an innovator?
As an agitator who thrives on provocative, emotionally charged rhetoric and confrontation ever become a competent administrator capable of managing a complex and divided nation? Can he orchestrate, manage, and scale solutions for a divided society? Can he build consensus among political rivals and competing interests? Can he move beyond destroying or disrupting systems to actually creating, strengthening and managing them?
Let me turn to the issue of employment, which is repeatedly invoked to attack the present NDA Government. Unemployment is undoubtedly a serious national concern. But merely turning “jobs” into a political slogan does not constitute an employment policy.
Have Rahul Ghandy and his sycophantic followers ever presented a comprehensive strategy—ways and means—to create the 1 to 1.5 crore jobs required every year for young Indians entering the job market?
If Rahul Ghandy wants to put the brakes on “large capital”, can he explain what alternative sources of investment, entrepreneurship, manufacturing and employment he proposes?
Instead of merely agitating over unemployment and encouraging young people to confront the law-and-order machinery, responsible Opposition leadership should present credible alternatives. Protest is legitimate in a democracy; provoking confrontation without offering workable solutions is not responsible political leadership.
If an agitator cannot switch off his rebellious instincts when the responsibility of administration arrives, governance itself can become a casualty. Administration requires the ability to build coalitions, negotiate with rivals, reconcile competing interests and formulate structured, realistic plans to overcome complex challenges.
The lesson of mankind’s history is simple: many revolutionary leaders have excelled at overthrowing governments but failed miserably at governance because they could never stop fighting the system they eventually came to control.
Destroying a system may win applause from the street. Governing it requires something entirely different—discipline, consensus, competence and responsibility.
That is the test Rahul Ghandy must answer. Time to stop “Gully Politics” to recapture power.
