Bihar’s eight Legislative Council seats include four graduates’ constituencies and four teachers’ constituencies. The teachers’ constituency results have produced a setback for the BJP, with its candidate Naval Kishore Yadav losing the Patna Teachers’ seat after holding it for around three decades.

Rahul Raj’s victory is also notable because he contested as an independent after being denied an NDA ticket and expelled by the BJP following his rebellion.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the JD(S), has won all four Legislative Council seats in Karnataka. The result is a setback for the ruling Congress, which failed to win any of the four constituencies.

The BJP won three seats, while its alliance partner JD(S) secured one.

JD(S) candidate A P Ranganath defeated Congress veteran Puttanna by 908 votes in the Bengaluru Teachers’ constituency. Ranganath secured 10,810 votes against Puttanna’s 9,902.
