Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP on Wednesday accused the Congress of adopting a “double standard” on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a statement, BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash questioned how the Congress could endorse a letter by its INDIA bloc allies, including the DMK and AAP, to the Chief Justice of India opposing the SIR, while simultaneously projecting Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar as the “brand ambassador” of the same exercise in his state.
“If this is not blatant hypocrisy, what is?” Subash asked.
He said the Supreme Court has already upheld the Election Commission’s constitutional authority to undertake Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, including when similar objections were raised in the past.
“Against this legal and constitutional backdrop, the Congress and its allies writing a letter to the Chief Justice is nothing but a political gimmick aimed at grabbing headlines,” he said.
