Hyderabad: India batter Tilak Varma emerged as the biggest attraction at the inaugural TG20 Player Auction on Saturday, securing a ₹33 lakh deal with Medak Falcons as Telangana’s franchise-based T20 league officially began its squad-building process.
The auction, held at Ramoji Film City, witnessed intense bidding among the eight franchises participating in the maiden edition of TG20, which is scheduled to begin on June 21 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal.
India pacer Mohammed Siraj was snapped up by Warangal Warriors for ₹14 lakh, while all-rounder CV Milind became the most expensive uncapped player after being signed by Anvita Khammam Aces for ₹17 lakh.
Among other notable Icon-category signings were Ravi Kiran (Palamuru Strikers), T. Raviteja (Medak Falcons), Tanay Thyagarajan (Pranava Ranga Reddy Risers), Rahul Buddhi (Anurag Nalgonda Knights), Tanmay Agarwal (Karimnagar Diamonds), and Rohit Rayudu (Palamuru Strikers).
In the A+ category, Aman Rao, Pragnay Reddy, and Ajay Dev Goud were among the marquee acquisitions, while emerging talents Arfaz Ahmed and Abhirath Reddy became the joint-highest buys in the A category at ₹11 lakh each.
The auction was conducted by noted sports presenter Charu Sharma and featured a player pool of more than 1,300 HCA-registered cricketers.
The inaugural TG20 season will feature eight franchises competing in 32 matches over 21 days, providing a major platform for Telangana’s cricketing talent.
