New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday held a sit-in outside the Vikaspuri police station demanding the registration of an FIR against Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma for slapping a 22-year-old man during a road inspection in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar.
AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, along with party workers, sat outside the police station after meeting DCP (West) Hareshwar Swami earlier in the day.
In a post on X, Bharadwaj said, “Shameless police of Modi. Delhi Police has not yet registered an FIR against Parvesh Verma. DCP, ACP, SHO said they have not seen the video of the slap yet. Is it believable? We are sitting at Vikaspuri police station and will not go until we get a copy of the FIR.”
“In 24 hours, ACP Nirmal and SHO Ghanshyam have not even done a basic enquiry into Parvesh Verma slapping a Gen-Z boy. They have not even seen the video, which has gone viral all over the world,” he added.
Delhi Police on Monday filed a non-cognisable report (NCR) against Verma over the slapping incident, while an FIR has been registered against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh for allegedly obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duty, officials said.
The incident occurred when Jarnail Singh, who was present at the spot during the road inspection by Verma, questioned the quality of a newly laid road surface after pulling out portions of it by hand. A man named Sahib Singh (22) was filming the proceedings when Verma slapped him.
Verma later said he would not tolerate what he described as attempts by AAP workers to obstruct government officials from carrying out their duties. He also alleged that Sahib Singh was associated with the AAP and had a previous case against him.
On Monday, Jarnail Singh said in a post on X, “I have heard that after exposing the BJP’s scams, it has retaliated by getting an FIR filed against me. But I am not scared. I am not going to be. I will keep exposing your corruption just like this. Long live the revolution.”
The FIR against Jarnail Singh was registered on the complaint of a PWD assistant engineer, while the NCR against Verma was filed on a complaint by Sahib Singh under Section 115 of the BNS pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt, officials said.
