Warangal: Young cricketers from several districts of Telangana showcased their batting and bowling prowess in the Telangana Cricket Association’s (TCA) Under-19 league matches, with the opening day witnessing several impressive individual performances, including three centuries and a string of emphatic victories.
The league, launched in Warangal on Thursday, aims to provide aspiring cricketers from rural and underserved districts with a competitive platform to demonstrate their talent and pursue opportunities in the game. Teams representing Karimnagar, Rangareddy, Vikarabad and Mahaboobnagar registered convincing victories, underlining the depth of cricketing talent beyond Hyderabad.
The matches produced some impressive batting displays, with young players scoring freely under pressure, while bowlers demonstrated their ability to turn games around with crucial breakthroughs. The performances highlighted the importance of structured competitions in identifying and nurturing emerging talent from across the State.
Karimnagar Beat Jangaon
Karimnagar posted a formidable 246 all out in 24.5 overs, riding on brilliant centuries and near-centuries from Md Junaid, who scored 102, and D Anand, who contributed 85. Their partnership laid the foundation for a commanding total.
Mohammed Latif was equally impressive with the ball, claiming four wickets for 13 runs, while E Sagar picked up three wickets for 20 runs.
Jangaon managed 154/5 in 23.5 overs in reply, with K Shashidhar scoring 35. K Sudarshan (3/15) and Md Junaid (3/14) delivered effective bowling spells to keep the opposition in check.
Karimnagar won by 95 runs, with Md Junaid named Man of the Match for his all-round contribution.
Rangareddy Dominate Khammam
Rangareddy produced a powerful batting display to score 201/5 in their allotted 20 overs. K Shivaram led the charge with an excellent 92, while Manjunath Shetty added a valuable 62 to put their team in a commanding position. Venkatram Satya claimed two wickets for 31 runs.
Khammam’s chase, however, failed to gather momentum as the team was bowled out for just 80 in 11.3 overs. M Vikram (3/23) and P Gopichand (3/26) shared the bowling honours, dismantling the opposition batting line-up.
Rangareddy secured a convincing 121-run victory, with K Shivaram earning the Man of the Match award for his outstanding innings.
Vikarabad Win Run-Fest
The contest between Vikarabad and Achampet turned into a high-scoring encounter, with Vikarabad piling up 280/5 in 25 overs. U Jhasiketh struck a magnificent 119, while D Shivashankar made an equally impressive 102, giving the side a formidable total.
M Shashidhar was among the wickets for Achampet, taking three for 49.
Achampet responded with determination, finishing at 244/7 in their 25 overs. Kyateshwar Goud top-scored with 82, G Nani contributed 71 and Mujtaba Mustaffa added 45. Despite the spirited chase, Achampet fell short of the target.
Vikarabad won by 36 runs, with U Jhasiketh adjudged Man of the Match for his match-defining century.
Mahaboobnagar Rout Narayanpet
Mahaboobnagar delivered another commanding performance, scoring 223/4 in 20 overs. K Abhilash contributed 60, Nithish scored 58 and Charan Mahender added 51, with the trio ensuring a strong finish for their team.
Narayanpet struggled against a disciplined bowling attack and were dismissed for just 48 in 10.2 overs. Lokesh Rathod was the standout performer, claiming four wickets for a mere three runs.
Mahaboobnagar registered a comprehensive 175-run victory, with Nithish receiving the Man of the Match award.
Rural Talent Deserves a National Platform
The performances in Warangal offer an encouraging glimpse of the cricketing potential spread across Telangana. Centuries, substantial partnerships, economical bowling and match-winning spells demonstrated that promising players are emerging from districts that often receive less exposure than established cricketing centres.
The TCA league seeks to create opportunities for these youngsters to develop their skills through organised competition and gain the experience required to progress to higher levels of the game.
The talented cricketers of Telangana are ready to compete in national tournaments if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) grants associate membership to the TCA. If the BCCI is genuinely committed to encouraging rural cricketing talent and ensuring that opportunities extend beyond established urban centres, recognising the TCA could provide a meaningful pathway for deserving youngsters from across the State to showcase their abilities on the national stage.
