New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a major push in domestic defence manufacturing, highlighting that India’s annual defence production has surged nearly fourfold over the past 12 years to reach a record ₹1.78 lakh crore.

Annual domestic output climbed from roughly ₹46,000 crore in 2014 to ₹1.78 lakh crore.

Military exports expanded significantly, reaching over 80 countries with a value of ₹38,424 crore.

Increased self-reliance means roughly 91% of army ammunition and 97% of navy and coast guard warships are now built locally. The government aims to hit ₹3 lakh crore in annual production and ₹50,000 crore in exports by 2029.
