Bengaluru: A counterfeit currency printing racket was busted in Bengaluru South district, with the arrest of seven people and seizure of materials used to make fake notes, police said on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Santosh (35), Satish (36), Sampath (33), Rajesh (34), Renukaraj (31), Shivaraj (42) and Govindaraj (50), they said.
The arrests were made on August 31 after information was received that counterfeit currency notes were being printed at a newly constructed house, within the limits of Aijur Police Station in Ramanagara Town, police said.
A viral claim circulated about a massive amount of cash found floating in a lake near Bidadi in the Bengaluru South district region.
The Bengaluru South District Police clarified that the recovered ₹500 notes were not real currency.
The papers found at the location were printed/xeroxed copies explicitly marked for “Project School Use Only”
