Meerpur (Rewari), Sept 22: The fourth State-Level Cultural Festival was held at Indira Gandhi University (IGU), Meerpur, on Tuesday with participation from around 150 students representing 11 districts of Haryana. The festival, organised in the memory of freedom fighter Rao Tula Ram, was jointly hosted by the university’s Rao Tula Ram Chair and Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW), in collaboration with Haryana Kala Parishad.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Asim Miglani presided over the programme, while Vice-Chairman of Haryana Kala Parishad Mahesh Joshi was the chief guest. Padma Shri Dr. S.S. Yadav and Meerpur Sarpanch Sanju Devi were among the special guests. Registrar Prof. Dilbag Singh and other faculty members, research scholars and students also attended.
In his address, Prof. Miglani recalled Rao Tula Ram’s contribution to the 1857 revolt and urged students to draw inspiration from the ideals of freedom fighters. He said the youth today must confront contemporary social and national challenges with courage and contribute to nation-building. He also emphasised the importance of participation in competitions and preserving the region’s cultural heritage.
Mahesh Joshi called upon students to remain connected with Haryanvi art and culture, saying the Haryana Kala Parishad was committed to identifying and promoting emerging talent. Prof. Dilbag Singh said cultural and sporting activities were important for developing students’ creativity and personality.
The winners of competitions in reel-making, poetry recitation, declamation, painting, ragni and dance were also felicitated. Among the prominent winners were Hemlata in senior declamation, Kalpana in senior painting, Khushi in senior ragni and Jyoti in senior female dance. Anurag and Yashika won the senior reel-making competition.
University-level NSS Awards for 2024-25 and 2025-26 were also presented to programme officers and volunteers from various colleges and university departments for their contribution to NSS activities.
The programme was compered by Dr. Sushant Yadav and Dr. Mukut Agrawal. Director DYCA Prof. Aditi Sharma proposed the vote of thanks. University authorities appreciated the Rao Tula Ram Chair, DSW and NSS teams for organising the event.
