Erling Haaland inspired Norway to one of the great shocks of the 2026 World Cup, knocking out five-time champions Brazil.

Haaland headed Norway in front late in an entertainingly end-to-end game and then made sure of the win by hammering a low shot past Alisson from outside the box.

The brace has pulled Haaland level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe on seven goals in the race for the Golden Boot.

Bruno Guimaraes had earlier seen a first-half penalty saved by the outstanding Orjan Nyland, although Nyland was unable to save a second spot kick when Neymar converted in stoppage time.

It is Brazil’s earliest World Cup exit since 1990, while Norway are charting untested waters. This is their deepest ever World Cup run and they will now face either Mexico or England for a place in the final four.
