Ashwin bags two as WI post 76/2 at Stumps, need 289 to level series

Ravichandran Ashwin struck twice as India restricted West Indies to 76/2 at Stumps, on Day 4 of their ongoing second Test match, in Port of Spain, on Sunday.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul (24*) and Jermaine Blackwood (20*) remained unbeaten as West Indies need 289 runs to level the two-match series. Ashwin took the wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite (28) and Kirk McKenzie (0) in the final session.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan smacked a half-century as India declared on 181/2 in their second innings. Kishan clobbered an unbeaten knock of 52 runs off 34 balls. Earlier, Rohit Sharma bagged a half-century in the first session, before losing his wicket to Shannon Gabriel. The India captain smacked 57 off 44 deliveries.

A five-wicket haul by Mohammed Siraj helped India restrict West Indies to 255 in their first innings.

In response to India’s first innings total of 438, opener Brathwaite smacked 75 runs off 235 balls, but wasn’t properly supported by his teammates.
