Jaipur: An old but live illumination shell was found in an agricultural field near the CRPF campus in Jaipur on Monday.
A woman passing through the area spotted the object lying among agricultural waste in a field in the Khatiwalon Ki Dhani area under Amber police station limits.
The villagers informed the police control room, following which police and Civil Defence personnel reached the site and began an inspection.
A bomb disposal squad was also called in to diffuse it.
“After confirming the presence of the explosive, a bomb disposal squad was called in. The squad took the shell to an area away from the populated locality and defused it in the Chainpura hill area,” Amber Station House Officer Gautam Dotasra said.
He said primary investigation suggested that it was an illumination shell, which is used to light up a large area at night.
Police are investigating how the live shell reached the field and where it had come from, Dotasra said.
