Ahmedabad: The BJP has retained the Manjalpur Assembly seat in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, with its candidate, Satendrabhai Patel, defeating Congress nominee Bhikhabhai Rabari by over thirty thousand votes in the by-election.
According to the Election Commission, Mr Patel secured 55,481 votes, while Mr Rabari polled 24,851 votes after all 20 rounds of counting. The bypoll was necessitated after the seat fell vacant following the death of senior BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Yogesh Patel.
The counting of votes is also underway for the by-elections to Bihar’s Bankipur Assembly constituency and Madhya Pradesh’s Datia Assembly seat.
In the Bankipur Assembly bypoll, Jan Suraaj Party candidate Prashant Kishor is leading BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha by over sixteen thousand eight hundred votes after 27 of the 31 rounds of counting. The by-election was necessitated after BJP leader Nitin Nabin vacated the Assembly seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
In the Datia Assembly seat, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh is leading BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari by over eleven thousand votes after 13 of the 15 rounds of counting. The seat fell vacant following the disqualification of former Congress leader Rajendra Bharti.
Voting for the bypolls to the three constituencies was held on the 30th of last month.
