Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay turned 52 on Monday, the first memorable occasion after he took up the reins as CM in May.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Chief Ministers – M K Stalin and Edappadi K Palaniswami – and BJP state chief Nainar Nagenthran were among the numerous leaders who extended their greetings to Vijay.
Wishes also poured in from various quarters greeting the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam founder, who upset the political fortunes of the Dravidian majors in the April 23 Assembly election and succeeded in forming a coalition government in the state for the first time, with the support of DMK’s allies.
In his message on ‘X’, the Prime Minister said, “birthday greetings to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay Ji. I pray for his long and healthy life. @TVKVijayHQ.”
DMK president Stalin greeted Vijay and said, “I wish you the strength to continue to serve the public with joy and good health.”
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami wished Vijay “a long life and good health in serving the people.”
Posting a photograph of Vijay, BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran wished the chief minister a long life, abundant health to continue to excel in public service.
Makkal Needhi Maiam president and MP Kamal Haasan, an ally of the opposition DMK, also greeted Vijay on the occasion.
In his message, TMC (Moopanar) founder G K Vasan said Vijay, who brought about a transformation in Tamil Nadu politics and won the hearts of the people, must provide good governance reflecting the thoughts of the people.
“And may the Almighty support you in this. I pray to God that your efforts for the welfare of the people will be successful and that you will live long and with good health,” Vasan said.
AIADMK state women’s wing deputy secretary Gayathri Raghuram said on ‘X’, “I admire your determination, dedication, and self-belief. On your special day, I wish you a very happy birthday. I pray that you achieve your goals of eradicating corruption, ensuring women’s safety, and fostering the development and growth of Tamil Nadu. May you continue to help the poor and the needy and serve the people with sincerity and compassion.”
Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and Keerthana and scores of TVK leaders and cadres too greeted Vijay.
Chandrasekar Joseph Vijay, a celebrated actor, was born on June 22, 1974 to director and film maker Chandrasekar and Shoba. Two years after launching the TVK, Vijay piloted his party to win 107 seats in the 234-member Assembly.
Despite lacking a simple majority of 118, he formed the coalition government with the support of the Congress, Left parties, VCK, and the IUML – all allies of the DMK.
