Tuticorn (Tamil Nadu): DMK MP Kanimozhi has flayed AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami over his stance on the delimitation exercise and said he appeared to have no concern about the number of Lok Sabha seats for Tamil Nadu being reduced.
Alleging that the AIADMK general secretary supported the Centre’s decision to reduce the Lok Sabha seats for Tamil Nadu, she said such a move would make the central government enact any legislation.
During his poll campaign in the state, Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu would not be affected by the delimitation as Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already assured that the state would not lose any Lok Sabha seats due to the exercise.
“There won’t be any respect for TN’s rights. Palaniswami has no concern for this. He says the DMK is not agreeable to women’s reservation. The DMK has always been demanding reservation for women since the times of our leader and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, and our present Chief Minister M K Stalin has been pursuing it,” the DMK deputy general secretary said, addressing a poll campaign here in support of the DMK candidate and state minister Geetha Jeevan.
She lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre for convening a special session of the Parliament for April 16-18 to introduce crucial amendments regarding delimitation of constituencies, a process linked to implementing the women’s reservation bill. She said Tamil Nadu will not hesitate to launch an agitation if the number of Lok Sabha seats is brought down (from the present 39).
