Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra was discharged from Breach Candy hospital on Wednesday morning after the family decided to take him home for treatment, his treating doctor told PTI.
The 89-year-old has been in and out of the hospital for weeks.
“Dharmendra ji was discharged from the hospital around 7.30 am. He will be treated at home as the family has decided to give him treatment at home,” Dr Pratit Samdani told PTI.
Bobby Deol was recently spotted exiting the hospital with an ambulance following him to his home.
The veteran actor has been in and out of the hospital for weeks due to age-related ailments.
Following the hospitalisation, several social media posts declared Dharmendra dead, leading to tributes from Chiranjeevi, Javed Akhtar, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, among others.
However, Hema Malini and Esha Deol later issued statements confirming that the veteran actor is recovering well. They also called out the media for spreading false rumours of Dharmendra’s death.
Dharmendra’s PR representatives have previously shared an update on the veteran actor’s health. The statement revealed that the doctors have been monitoring him closely, and there is no immediate cause for alarm. The team has urged fans not to panic or believe unverified reports circulating online.
Police barricades have been set up outside Dharmendra’s Juhu home to control the crowds and media. In support of the iconic actor who has been a mainstay of Indian cinema for over 60 years, fans have been gathering every day and leaving messages and flowers.
Dharmendra, who is regarded as the He-Man of Bollywood, has acted in over 300 films over the course of six decades. Following his 1960 debut in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, he went on to give standout performances in timeless films such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, and Phool Aur Patthar. Generations of people loved and respected him for his easy charm and adaptability.
