Navi Mumbai: The Women in Blue have scripted a thrilling victory over defending champions Australia to storm into the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. India will now face South Africa, who earlier outclassed England in the first semifinal in Guwahati on Wednesday.
It was a match filled with emotions, tension, and brilliance as India chased down a massive target of 339 with five wickets in hand and nine balls to spare at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The final moments had every fan on the edge of their seat when India needed eight runs off 12 balls. Amanjot Kaur struck a full toss through the covers for a boundary and then drove straight down the ground to complete the winning runs.
As soon as Amanjot’s bat connected, jubilation erupted. Jemimah Rodrigues ran straight towards her and wrapped her in a tight hug. The entire Indian squad rushed onto the field, with Smriti Mandhana reaching the celebrating pair first, capturing a moment of pure joy and unity.
Rodrigues Shines Under Pressure Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the night, anchoring the chase with a match-winning unbeaten 127 runs. Her calmness under pressure and elegant stroke play ensured India stayed on course despite Australia’s huge total. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s gritty 89 provided crucial support and helped guide India towards victory.
India finished with 341 for 5 in 48.3 overs, marking one of the highest successful chases in Women’s World Cup history.
Earlier in the day, Australia posted a commanding 338 all out, thanks to Phoebe Litchfield’s breathtaking 119, which formed the core of their innings. Ellyse Perry contributed 77, while Ashleigh Gardner’s 63 gave the team a strong finish. The total became the highest ever in a Women’s World Cup semifinal, surpassing South Africa’s 319 against England earlier in the tournament.
However, India’s batting brilliance overshadowed Australia’s effort as the Women in Blue chased down the record target in style to book their place in the World Cup final against South Africa.
With this memorable win, India have earned a well-deserved shot at World Cup glory. The confidence from this stunning triumph over Australia will fuel their determination as they prepare to face South Africa in the final.
