Young Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a brilliant performance in the first T20 match against Zimbabwe, scoring the first half-century of his international career. He reached the fifty-run mark in just 18 balls and was eventually dismissed after playing a memorable innings of 50 runs off 19 balls. Although he got out on the very next delivery after completing his half-century, his explosive innings grabbed everyone’s attention.
After reaching his half-century, Vaibhav celebrated in two distinct styles. His first celebration involved making the letter ‘A’ with his hands, a gesture he dedicated to his mother. He also celebrated by giving a ‘thumbs-up’ with both hands. The young batter has now revealed the reason behind this second celebration as well.
In a video released by the BCCI, Vaibhav stated that playing such a significant innings early in one’s career boosts confidence immensely. He said, “When you play an innings like this early in your career and perform well, it boosts your confidence for future matches. I felt like I was in the zone and kept faith in myself.”
Vaibhav dedicated his maiden international half-century to his family, coach, and everyone who supported him throughout his cricketing journey. He remarked that this achievement is for all those who stood by him during both tough and good times. Speaking about his ‘A’ celebration, Vaibhav explained that his mother’s name is Aarti, which is why he made that gesture for her. Regarding the second celebration, he mentioned that it stemmed from a conversation he had with Indian batter Rinku Singh.
Vaibhav also mentioned that there are certain grounds where he particularly enjoys playing, and he really liked the atmosphere in Harare. His aggressive innings against Zimbabwe played a crucial role in helping India chase down the target. In this match, India defeated Zimbabwe by 7 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. This marked Shreyas Iyer’s first victory as captain. The second T20 match of the series between the two teams will now be played on July 25 at the Harare Sports Club.
