Six Maoists killed in exchange of fire with police in Telangana

Khammam: In a fierce encounter on Thursday morning, at least six Maoists were killed in a clash with special forces in the Karakagudem forest area of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, Telangana. The encounter took place during an anti-Maoist operation led by the elite Greyhounds unit.

The police recovered a cache of weapons from the site, including two AK-47 assault rifles, one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), a .303 rifle, a pistol, two live pistol rounds, a magazine, and multiple kit bags filled with other materials.

Among the deceased Maoists, two were women, according to police reports. During the intense exchange of fire, two Greyhounds commandos sustained bullet injuries. They were initially treated at Bhadrachalam Area Hospital and later moved to Hyderabad for further medical care. One commando, who suffered a bullet wound to his stomach, is reported to be in critical condition, while the other is said to be out of danger.

In the aftermath of the encounter, the police have suspended their combing operations in the area and are now prioritizing the safety and well-being of their injured personnel.
