Patna: Bijendra Kumar Gupta, the main accused behind the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 paper leak, has been arrested by Bhiwandi Police in Bihar. He was brought to Bhiwandi along with his associate, Indrajeet Singh alias Piku, for questioning, reported ANI.

The alleged mastermind had been absconding for nearly a month before his arrest. Following their arrest, both accused were taken to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone-2 office in Bhiwandi, where they are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case had earlier arrested three employees of a printing press in Agra for allegedly leaking the TET question paper during the printing process. The accused were identified as Nareshkumar Puranchand Mahore, Sanjaykumar Sureshchandra Chandra and Babulal Narayansingh Kushwaha.
The SIT stated that Mahore leaked the question paper and passed it to former printing press employee Sanjay Kumar Sharma and another absconding accused, Sonu Kumar, reported The Hindustan Times.
The leaked paper was then allegedly supplied to Gupta, who police believe coordinated the wider racket. The SIT suspects the accused exploited their familiarity with the printing process to gain access to confidential examination papers.
With Gupta’s arrest, along with his associate Indrajit Singh, the total number of people arrested in the Maharashtra TET paper leak case has risen to 14.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Pawan Bansod said the police team had been searching for Gupta for the past three weeks before tracking him down in Bihar.
“We succeeded in arresting him this morning. Along with him, one of his associates, Indrajit Singh, has also been arrested. Both accused are being brought to Mumbai and will be produced before the Bhiwandi court,” Bansod said, confirming the arrest to ToI.
Gupta is suspected of having links to multiple examination paper leak cases across different states. According to the ToI report, he had previously been arrested in connection with similar cases and was out on bail when the TET paper was allegedly leaked.
The Maharashtra TET 2026 examination, scheduled to be held on June 28, was postponed a day earlier after police uncovered the paper leak. The incident affected nearly six lakh candidates and came amid heightened scrutiny of examination security following the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
Earlier this month, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the examination was postponed because of the prompt arrest taken by police after the accused were identified, and not because of the paper leak. He said a revised examination schedule would be announced soon and assured candidates that the government would ensure the exam is conducted smoothly, reported PTI.
