Bhubaneshwar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s Rs 169-crore data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, officials said.

Modi is scheduled to land at Biju Patnaik International Airport here around 4.10 pm aboard a special Indian Air Force aircraft, they said.

From the airport, he will take a helicopter to Khurda, and then proceed by road to the RBI facility at Info Valley-II in Jatni.

The new data centre is designed to meet the RBI’s computing requirements and provide a secure, scalable and resilient technological environment for the central bank and the wider financial sector.

According to the official announcement, the infrastructure includes four state-of-the-art data centres intended to host mission-critical payment and settlement systems alongside other major initiatives.

The facility’s Tier IV certification reflects its positioning within a high-resilience category of data-centre infrastructure. Such facilities are designed to support continuity through redundancy and fault-tolerant systems, although actual operational performance depends on implementation and ongoing management.

A dedicated cybersecurity training institute

The accompanying Cybersecurity Training Institute is intended to strengthen professional skills, research and institutional capabilities in cybersecurity and enterprise technology.

Its focus areas are expected to include artificial intelligence, quantum computing and other emerging technologies relevant to banking and financial services.

As digital banking, online payments and interconnected financial systems expand, institutions face growing demands to protect sensitive information, maintain service availability and respond to cyber threats. Specialist training and research can help build the expertise required to address these challenges.

The RBI plays a central role in India’s financial system, including monetary policy, banking regulation and oversight of payment systems. Reliable computing infrastructure is therefore important to the continuity of its critical operations.

The new facilities are intended to provide a stronger technological foundation for the RBI’s work and support the resilience of digital financial services. Their long-term contribution will depend on operational readiness, cybersecurity practices, disaster-recovery arrangements and continued investment in skilled personnel.
