Gurugram: Gurugram police has arrested eight Congress workers on charges of disrupting VIP security arrangements and obstructing government duty after the opposition party workers waved black flags when Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s convoy arrived in Gurugram on Friday.

The protest occurred after Saini attended a meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee and was on his way to a ‘Chaupal’ programme with GenH Startup Summit 2026 at Gurugram University.

Further, DCPs of two concerned areas have been issued showcause notice over the incident, and three police personnel, including the SHO of Civil Lines Police Station, have been suspended.

“The government respects every citizen’s right to democratic and peaceful protest. However, under the guise of protests, it cannot be permitted to disrupt law and order, obstruct government work, or affect VIP security”, said a senior police officer.

Led by Congress Rural District President Vardhan Rao, more than 15 party workers allegedly pulled out black cloths from their pockets and waved them at the chief minister’s convoy, alleging a delay in the release of the results for Gurugram University’s first-year students.
