US-Iran fail to reach agreement in Islamabad peace talks, says JD Vance

Islamabad: After nearly 21 hours of negotiation on the matter, the United States and Iran have failed to reach an agreement on the peace terms in Islamabad. US Vice President JD Vance stated Islamabad on the matter after the meetings.

JD Vance and the US delegation boarded the flight to return to the United States without a deal.

In his statement, Vance said, “The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement.”

Further, he added that the Iranians have chosen not to accept our terms. He also expressed his appreciation to the Pak PM and Munir, who hosted the meeting. He also added that Pakistan tried to bridge the gap.

It’s bad news for Iran, much more than the US, said JD Vance.

“We negotiated for several hours, and we have not yet reached an agreement that is satisfactory for both sides. We need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek nuclear weapons and tools which will enable them to achieve nuclear weapons. The President is very clear about this,” added Vance.

The US just could not get to a situation where the Iranians were willing to accept the terms. Vance said that the US were flexible and accommodating

JD Vance also added, “We were talking to the president consistently. I don’t know how many times we talked to him – a half dozen times, a dozen times – over the past 21 hours; we obviously also talked to Admiral Cooper, to Pete, to Marco, and to the entire national security team. We talked to Scott Bessent many times.”

Concluding his statement, the US VP said that the US was negotiating in good faith and that the delegation is leaving with a simple proposal, a method of understanding which is the US’s final and best offer.

We’ll see if the Iranians accept it, he concluded.
