Accident at bullet train site near Ahmedabad; several trains cancelled, rescheduled

Ahmedabad: A segmental launching gantry used for construction at a bullet train project site near Ahmedabad accidentally skid from its position and affected the adjoining railway line, disrupting the movement of several trains, officials said on Monday.

No casualty was reported in the incident, which took place around 11 pm on Sunday at Vatva near here, nor did it cause any damage to the erected structure, the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) said.

According to National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd the incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday (March 23) when a segmental launching gantry used for viaduct construction at Vatva (near Ahmedabad city) was retracting after launching a concrete girder. During this process, it accidentally skidded from its position.

“This has affected the adjoining railway line in the vicinity. Senior NHSRCL officials are already at site. No casualties have been reported. There has been no damage to the structure erected,” a statement from NHSRCL said.

Trains fully cancelled include Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Karnavati Express, Double Decker Express, Gujarat Queen, Gujrat Express, among others. Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Express trains have been partially cancelled and will be terminated at Vadodara railway junction.

Five trains have been rescheduled, while six others have been diverted, the Western railways sources said.
