Ratnavali Shakti Peeth is situated on the banks of the Ratnakar River at Khanakul-Krishnanagar, district Hooghly, West Bengal. Here, the idol of Maa Sati is called ‘Kumari’, and the lord Shiva is worshipped as ‘Bhairav’. It is locally known as Anandamayee Shakthi Peetha.
Ratnavali Shakti Peeth is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the right shoulder of Mata Sati fell. According to the Puranas of Hinduism, wherever the pieces of the body part, the clothes, or the jewelry of Goddess Sati fell, Shakti Peeth came into existence. These are called holy places of pilgrimage dedicated to Adi Shakti.
According to the legend, Goddess Sati sacrificed her life in the sacrificial fire performed by her father, King Daksha. When Lord Shankar was circling the entire universe with the dead body of Goddess Sati, during this time, Lord Vishnu, with his Sudarshan Chakra, divided Sati’s body into 51 parts. Goddess Sati’s ‘right shoulder’ fell at this place.
When special poojas are organized, all fairs and festivals are observed in Ratnavali Shakti Peeth during Durga Puja and Navratri. During these festivals, some people observe fasts (vrat) as respect and dedication to the idol. The temple is decorated with flowers and colourful bright lights during the festival days. The spiritual atmosphere of the temple brings peace to the hearts and minds of the devotees. Mahashivratri is also celebrated here with huge devotion and dedication.
Their devotees give The regular offerings to God at the time of pooja. Hibiscus flowers, betel leaves, Bilva Patra (leaves of a wood apple tree), sweets, meat, oil lamps, and incense are offered to the deity as Bhog.
