Vedic philosophy teaches that we are not just the body—we are the Soul (Ātman). While our body is new, the soul is eternal. It carries the impressions (samskaras) of our past actions, experiences, and learning. These impressions influence how we think, feel, act, and respond to life’s situations.
This is the essence of the Law of Karma. Our present is shaped by our past actions, but our future is created by the choices we make today.
So instead of asking,
“Why is this happening to me?”
ask,
“What is this experience teaching me, and what is the right thing to do now?”
This simple shift changes everything. It moves us from blaming circumstances to taking responsibility for our own growth.
Many great masters, including Gautama Buddha, Swami Vivekananda, and Acharya Chanakya, taught that true wisdom comes from looking within. Through meditation, self-reflection, disciplined living, and right action, we can awaken the inner wisdom that already exists within us.
Five Daily Practices
* Spend a few minutes every day in silence or meditation.
* Read and reflect on a verse from the Bhagavad Gita.
* Think before you speak or act.
* Do your duty with sincerity and honesty.
* Before sleeping, reflect on one thing you did well and one thing you can improve tomorrow.
As the Bhagavad Gita reminds us:
“Lift yourself by yourself; do not degrade yourself. For the self alone is one’s friend, and the self alone is one’s enemy.” (Bhagavad Gita 6.5)
Your past has brought you to where you are today. Your choices will determine where you go tomorrow. Every thought matters. Every action creates karma. Every day is a new opportunity to build a better future.
