New Delhi: A day after violent clashes broke out near Jantar Mantar during Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led demonstrations over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and left several police personnel injured, the Delhi Police is considering seeking the cancellation of passports of people allegedly found to have played a direct role in the violence.
According to sources quoted by news agency PTI, Delhi Police has launched an extensive identification exercise using CCTV footage, video recordings and other technical evidence to trace those suspected of participating in rioting, attacks on police personnel and other acts of violence during the agitation.
Once identified, authorities may initiate proceedings to revoke the passports of those found to have been actively involved in the violence, in accordance with the relevant legal provisions, the sources said as reported by PTI.
Among those hurt in the clashes on Wednesday night was Delhi Police Inspector Nand Kishor Singh, who alleged that he was assaulted by a group of protesters while making his way from his parked vehicle to his deployment point near the protest site.
“There were around 4,000 to 5,000 people gathered there. They were raising anti-police slogans and anti-government slogans. I thought they were students and I was going to perform my duty,” Singh was quoted as saying to PTI.
Describing the alleged assault, the officer said he was attacked with sticks, stones and other sharp objects.
“They assaulted me with lathis, sticks, stones and whatever sharp objects they had in their hands. I sustained injuries and somehow managed to escape. I was in uniform when they attacked me,” he said.
According to Delhi Police, multiple personnel sustained injuries in the confrontation. The force has registered cases and begun an investigation to identify those allegedly responsible for attacking police officers and damaging public property. Officials said legal action would be taken against all those found to have been involved in the violence.
